Elevating Anatomy: Sculpting Unconventional Poses - Helios

This sculpture represents my exploration of anatomy through unconventional poses, showcasing my understanding of the human form in dynamic and expressive compositions. Drawing inspiration from various forms of dance, particularly the captivating style of butoh, I aimed to capture the essence of movement and evoke a sense of intrigue.

This artwork draws inspiration from the renowned Lysippos Helios bust sculpture, which has been widely embraced within the ethereal realm of the vaporwave movement. In my interpretation, I sought to capture the essence of Helios, meticulously rendering his facial features, hair, and iconic hat, while imbuing him with a heightened sense of divinity and a more majestic physical presence.

This artwork is part of a series of three sculptures that were incorporated into a Piranesi-inspired unity video game, which I developed as part of my first module at MMU. The objective was to experiment with innovative ways of presenting my sculptures, utilizing scale and positioning to distort perceptions. In this interactive experience, players could navigate and even climb the sculptures from a first-person perspective, immersing themselves in the physicality and presence of the artwork.

Through this project, I aimed to push the boundaries of traditional sculpture by merging it with the immersive possibilities offered by video game technology. This fusion allowed for a unique and engaging exploration of my sculptures, enabling viewers to experience them in an entirely new and interactive manner.

Witness the synergy of anatomy and movement as this sculpture series invites you to engage with the artistry of unusual poses and embark on a first-person journey through a world where sculptures come to life in the context of a captivating video game.
