This character was originally created for Grindhouse Ghouls, a cancelled project many moons ago.
The character was designed to combine the rebellious, DIY attitude of 1980s skate culture with the exaggerated gore and practical-effects aesthetic of classic zombie films. The contrast between the carefree personality of a skater and the physical decay of an undead character helped create a playful but unsettling visual direction.
The first selection of images show a recent revision of the original character. This update focused on improving the texture work for Portfolios sake.
A significant part of the development process involved studying emaciation, muscle deterioration and the way underlying anatomical structures become visible through damaged or dehydrated tissue. Particular attention was given to maintaining believable skeletal and muscular landmarks while exaggerating areas of decay for a stronger horror silhouette.
The character and hard-surface accessories were sculpted in ZBrush, with clothing created using Marvelous Designer. The project was then refined through retopology, texturing and presentation as a game-ready character.
